Course Overview:

Are you interested in having time to create or expand upon your own digital composition? As we ask students to read and write digitally, it is important that we, as teachers are doing the same. Come join us as we explore the possibilities of composing using digital tools and connect with a larger audience. In addition, we will create a pool of resources to use in our own classrooms.  This class will be differentiated to meet the needs of the participants.

Goals include the following:

  • Increase expertise in diverse genres of digital composition including social media and become familiar with a core set of tools for digital writing in K-12 literacy workshops.
  • Develop a presence on social media by connecting to an audience outside our smaller community.
  • Discover and create mentor texts.
  • Create digital compositions at the modification and redefinition level on SAMR model.
  • Increase knowledge of the research on digital writing in instructional contexts
  • Design a plan to implement digital literacy in K-12 workshops that provides opportunities for students to compose digitally and connect with others while considering authenticity, intention, and student choice.
