Teaching Writing in the Secondary School: Teaching and Assessing Argumentative Writing

3 Graduate Credit Course from The Ohio State University

The course, designed primarily for middle and high school teachers (English/ Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, Math, or teachers in other grade bands or content interested in argument), will focus on key issues in the teaching and learning of argumentative writing. Argumentation and argumentative writing are particularly important for thinking and learning across content areas. Great for debate team and mock trial advisors too!

Topics Include:
– Defining argument, argumentation, and argumentative writing
-Verbal argumentation in the classroom (discussion, debates, etc.) and its connections to argumentative writing and reading/literature instruction
-Strategies for teaching argumentative writing -Assessing argumentative writing
